STORRS, CONN.—The Butler track and field team ended the Big East Outdoor Championships on a high-note on Saturday breaking two school records and taking home the gold in two events. The Bulldog men finished fifth as a team with 92 points while the women took eighth with 20 points.
The 4x800-meter relay quartet of Aedan Rendek, David Slapak, Austin Gabay, and Jesse Hamlin led the way after winning the event with the fastest mark in program history at 7:26.59. Hamlin ran the fastest split in the race with a time of 1:48.93.
In the women's 4x400-meter relay, Grace Stedge, Jocelyn Davis, Clara Reynolds, and Abby Brennan etched their names in the history books after running a school record of 3:47.96.
Joseph Pierro was the other Bulldog to secure a gold medal on Saturday. His time of 21.25 was a new personal best and marked the second consecutive Bulldog to win the event (Luke Finnegan, 2024).
Luke Walden secured second in the men's pole vault with a height of 4.86 meters. Austin Gabay also finished with a silver medal in the men's 1,500 meters after running a time of 3:45.74.
Rounding out the All-Big East honors recipients on the final day of competition were the men's 4x100-meter relay squad of Pierro, Lairden Rogge, Troy Larrison, and Ben Bradley. The group posted a time of 40.85 to take third in the event.
The NCAA East First Round is scheduled for May 28-31 at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. Early next week, the Bulldogs will learn which student-athletes are among the top 48 in the region in their respective event to earn entry into the preliminary competition.
