NEW YORK – Two seniors from the Butler women's soccer team, Talia Sommer and Amelie Darey, were selected to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Sommer was one of only two players in the conference to be a unanimous selection. In addition, the team was tabbed to finish fourth in the 2025 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday, August 12.
 
The major awards and Preseason All-BIG EAST Team were voted on by the conference head coaches who could not cast ballots for their own team or their own student-athletes.
 
Georgetown garnered 10 of 11 first-place votes, finishing with 100 points. Xavier land in the second position, with 87 points, and collected the remaining first-place nod. UConn came in third, with 86 points, one spot ahead of Butler with 70. Creighton rounded out the top five with 64 points.
 
Sommer, from Tel Aviv, Israel, is a two-time All-BIG EAST First Team selection and won second-team honors as well as Freshman of the Year in 2022. Last season, as a junior, she led the BIG EAST with 1.53 points per game (30th nationally), .58 goals per game (37th) and a .603 shot accuracy (25th), and she was second in the conference with 29 points (34th) and 11 goals (39th). 
 
Darey, from Epson Surrey, England, was an All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree in 2024. As a junior, she started all 19 matches for the Bulldogs in the defensive line, finishing fourth on the team with 3 goals and 8 points.
 
In addition to Butler's duo of representatives on the preseason team, Georgetown, UConn, and Xavier also had multiple selections. Georgetown and Xavier each had three on the list, while UConn joined Butler with a pair. Providence, with one selection, rounded out the honorees.
