Bulldogs Open Season This Week Hosting Western Illinois and Bowling Green

The Butler men's soccer team opens the 2025 season with a pair of home matches, hosting Western Illinois on Thursday and Bowling Green on Sunday. Both contests will be held in the Sellick Bowl.
 
Western Illinois is coming off a season in which it was 8-11-1, going 3-7 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Leathernecks defeated Gonzaga, Northern Illinois, and IU Indy but lost to Bradley, Northern Kentucky, Lindenwood, and Eastern Illinois. WIU and Butler tied last season in Indianapolis.
 
Bowling Green went 12-6-2 in 2024 and was 4-3-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Falcons picked up wins over No. 14 Western Michigan, Michigan State, IU Indy, Northern Illinois, Bradley and Butler but lost to No. 23 Oregon State, Michigan, UIC, and Evansville.

  • Josemir Gomez was chosen by BIG EAST coaches for a spot on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
  • Gomez and Ryan Hannosh were each named to the United Soccer Coaches 2025 Forwards to Watch List.
     
  • Currently ranked opponents (United Soccer Coaches) on Butler's 2025 schedule include: No. 20 Western Michigan (9/5), No. 7 Pittsburg (9/8), No. 3 Ohio State (9/13), No. 25 Georgetown (9/19) and No. 21 Akron (9/27).
     
  • The Bulldogs' 2025 roster - which features 13 newcomers - includes players from 10 different states and nine total countries. Topping the list are three players from Indiana and three players from England.
     
  • 2025 will be Head Coach Paul Snape's 15th at the helm of the Butler men's soccer program.
