PREVIEW: Bulldogs Open Conference Action on Road

The Butler women's soccer team begins BIG EAST play with a Saturday night road match at Marquette.
 
The Bulldogs (3-1-3, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) are coming off a week that saw a win vs. IU Indy and a draw with Drake.
 
The Golden Eagles (4-3-1, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) have wins this season that include Northern Illinois and Milwaukee. Losses have come to No. 21 Wisconsin, Kansas City, and Minnesota, and the side most recently drew with Loyola.

The Series: Butler leads the overall series, 10-4-1, and won last season, 1-0, in Indianapolis. Marquette's most recent win was in 2022, but the Bulldogs have won eight of the most recent nine contests. The first match between the programs took place in 2013.

  • Talia Sommer leads the BIG EAST and ranks 17th nationally with 2.00 shots on goal per game, and she ranks 32nd with 3.86 total shots per game. She is second in the conference (25th) with 1.86 points per game.

  • Norah Jacomen's goal was her third this season and the 13th of her career.
  • Talia Sommer's assist was her fifth of the season and the 22nd of her career.
  • With four saves, Addison Ash now has 15 this season.
  • Butler led the first half in shots, 15-2, while Drake led in the second half, 9-3.
     
  • The Bulldogs were selected by BIG EAST coaches at No. 4 in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll. Georgetown received the most points, including 10 first-place votes. Xavier was second with one first- place vote, followed by UConn in the third spot.
  • Two Bulldogs, Talia Sommer and Amelie Darey, were chosen for the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Sommer was one of only two players in the conference to be a unanimous selection.
