Two Career-First Goals for Bulldogs in Draw with Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Butler women's soccer team and Marquette had to wait an extra 45 minutes to begin BIG EAST competition due to a weather delay. After 90 minutes of play, neither side would walk away with a victory as the match ended in a 2-2 draw. The Bulldogs (3-1-4, 0-0-1 BIG EAST) scored twice in the first half on career-first goals from both Chloe Brecht and Emily O'Malley. The Golden Eagles (4-3-2, 0-0-1 BIG EAST) responded after the break, connecting on a pair of goals within a three-minute span and leveling the score.

Key Moments
  • 17' | Chloe Brecht takes a pass on Butler's half of the pitch. She travels forward, among multiple defenders, and fires from 25 yards out. Her left-footed shot slides just inside the right post, giving Butler a 1-0 lead.
  • 35' | Sydney Longo has the ball on the left side and finds Norah Jacomen in the center of the field. Jacomen drops off to Emily O'Malley who shoots from about 30 yards. The hard shot caroms off a Marquette defender's head and arches high, over the Golden Eagles keeper and into the net. It's a 2-0 lead for Butler.

  • 62' | Talia Sommer carries down the middle and shoots from 24 yards. The ball hits the crossbar on the right side and bounces out of the area.
  • 66' | Addison Ash punches out a cross from the right side, but Marquette gathers the ball and scores on the open net. The Butler lead is cut in half.
  • 68' | A Marquette free kick bounces off the cross bar. A Golden Eagles player volleys directly into the upper right corner. The match is level, 2-2.
