Bulldogs Close Butler Volleyball Invitational with Two Wins Saturday


The Bulldogs won a pair of matches on the second day of the Butler Volleyball Invitational hosted at the Fishers Event Center in Fishers, Ind.
 
Butler swept Oakland in the first match of the day before taking a 3-1 decision over Eastern Michigan in the nightcap.
 
With the two wins, Butler finishes the non-conference at 7-6.
 
THE WIN OVER OAKLAND: Butler scored the 25-22, 25-18, 25-18 win behind 18 kills from Alaleh Tolliver. Libero Lauren Evans had 20 digs in the contest. Butler's defense limited Oakland to a .104 hitting percentage and no Golden Grizzly had more than seven kills.
 
THE WIN OVER EASTERN MICHIGAN: Butler captured the match 25-23, 25-14, 21-25, 25-22. Tolliver once again led the way with 20 kills on .341 hitting. She added 12 digs for a double-double. Setter Kaylee Finnegan orchestrated the offense with 55 digs as the Bulldogs hit .286 for the match. Elise Ward had 17 kills for the Bulldogs.
 
Eastern Michigan is now 8-5 on the season, while Oakland falls to 0-12.
 
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: IU Indianapolis placed three players on the All-Tournament Team after defeating Eastern Michigan Thursday night and Butler on Friday. Maia Long earned Tournament MVP honors and Jaguars Morgan Ostrowski and Grace Purichia joined her on the All-Tournament Team. Butler placed Ward and Finnegan on the All-Tournament alongside Eastern Michigan's Taeley Mahler.
 
UP NEXT: The Bulldogs open BIG EAST play Wednesday night, driving over to Cincinnati for a 6 p.m. first serve against Xavier. Butler opens conference competition with four road matches before hosting Providence Friday, Oct. 10 at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
