Butler Suffers First Loss of the Season to Iowa

In a match of 3-0 teams Iowa was able to defeat Butler in straight Sets. 

Bulldog Bites
  • Alaleh Tolliver led Butler tonight in kills with 10. 
  • Sawyer Jones picked up 8 kills of her own during the match. 
  • Lauren Evans tallied 16 digs throughout the match, which led the Dawgs.
  • Kaylee Finnegan continued to lead the offensive attack for Butler, she added 20 assists tonight 

Set 1 Iowa (25-17)
The first set saw the two squads trade points early on. Kills from Sawyer Jones and Lauren Evans early on helped Butler grab a 12-11 set 1 lead. A 12-4 run allowed the Hawkeyes to separate from the Bulldogs and claim set 1. 

Set 2 Iowa (25-14)
Iowa started the second set on a 5-0 run which eventually led to a 14-6 early set 2 advantage for the Hawkeyes. Iowa was able to remain in control of the second set throughout and earn a 25-14 set 2 win. 

Set 3 Iowa (25-21)
Kills by Ellery Rees, Elise Ward and Alaleh Tolliver early in the 3rd set allowed Butler to snag a 7-6 set 3 lead. A couple points later, Maria Nix and Sawyer Jones scored kills for Butler about midway through the set, enabling Butler to hold a 12-11 lead. Iowa was able to gain control of the set after that, they built a 20-16 lead. Tolliver and Sawyer Jones were able to slam down a kill each in the later stage of the set, but Iowa was able to hold on and secure the match in 3 sets.

Butler will take on Loyola Chicago tomorrow at 4pm ET. Saturday, the Dawgs will face Illinois State and 12pm ET.
