Butler junior Gemma Gillespie has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week by the conference after her performances at Seton Hall and DePaul.

The Bulldogs and Pirates played to 0-0 draw last Wednesday, while Butler came from behind on Saturday to defeat the Blue Demons, 3-2.

Gillespie anchored Butler's defensive line for 150 minutes over the two matches, as that unit was key to the resulting shutout at Seton Hall. At DePaul, the center back produced a brace, scoring the second goal along with the game-winning goal in a span of just over five minutes.

This coming week, Butler hosts St. John's for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Wednesday before traveling to Creighton for a match on Saturday afternoon.
