Josh Wilkerson has been hired as the strength and conditioning coach for Butler Men's Basketball, joining head coach Ronald Nored's staff leading into the 2026-27 season.
Â
Wilkerson arrives at Butler from Middle Tennessee, where he served as the men's basketball program's strength and conditioning coach for the last two seasons.
Â
"Josh has been impactful throughout his career, maximizing athletic performance through dynamic planning, utilizing sports science, and intentional motivation," said Nored. "He will immediately connect with our guys due to his background as a college basketball student-athlete, and we are excited for the significant impact he will have on our program here at Butler."
Â
At Middle Tennessee, Wilkerson oversaw all aspects of athletic performance for the Blue Raiders, including physical preparation, nutrition, recovery, and sports science through player load monitoring and data analysis. He also worked with the track and field program.
In his first season with MTSU, Wilkerson made an immediate impact, helping the basketball team achieve an eight-win improvement from the previous year, a second-place finish in Conference USA, and the program's fifth-ever NIT appearance.
Wilkerson has established a performance system proven to improve body composition, strength, performance metrics, and player availability. During the 2025-26 season, he continued to emphasize player development and durability, with the Blue Raiders maintaining 99-percent player availability while sustaining physical performance throughout the season.
Prior to joining MTSU, Wilkerson was the assistant strength and conditioning coach for Vanderbilt Men's Basketball during the 2023-24 season, assisting in the programming and implementation of a comprehensive athletic performance program for the basketball team.
Previously, Wilkerson completed sports performance internships at both Vanderbilt and Tennessee State, gaining experience working with collegiate athletes across multiple sports.
A native of Nashville, Tenn., Wilkerson earned a Master's Degree in Exercise Science from Middle Tennessee State in 2024 and a Bachelor's Degree in Communications and Exercise Physiology from Kentucky State in 2022.
Â
Wilkerson also has a deep basketball background as a player. While at Kentucky State, he played basketball for the Thorobreds for four years, serving as team captain in both his junior and senior seasons.
Â
Wilkerson is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and holds his First Aid/CPR/AED Certification through the American Red Cross.
