Men's soccer head coach Ian Sarachan has added Guillermo Laguna to the program's staff. Laguna previously coached at Florida Gulf Coast University and Iowa Western Community College.
Â
"I am incredibly excited to have Guillermo join our staff and welcome him to the Butler family," stated Sarachan. "Guillermo has tremendous experience in all facets of building a program and will be a key part in helping us move forward. His ability to recruit, both domestically and internationally, will be invaluable, and I look forward to him helping bring quality student-athletes to our program."
Â
In his only season at FGCU, Laguna helped lead the Eagles to wins over Memphis, SIUE, Stetson, and North Florida. Two of the program's players earned All-ASUN recognition, and four were selected to the All-ASUN Academic Team.
Â
At Iowa Western, Laguna helped the Reivers to a 45-7-8 record over three seasons. The run included an undefeated and record-breaking season in 2024 that saw the program win its third NJCAA DI National Championship. Laguna and his staff were awarded National Coaching Staff of the Year honors by the United Soccer Coaches. The group was instrumental in coaching six student-athletes to NJCAA All-American selections, and additional recognition for the team included 2024 NJCAA National Player of the Year, NJCAA Tournament MVP, and NJCAA Most Valuable Offensive and Defensive Player awards. One student-athlete that Laguna coached, Roman Torres, was drafted 25th overall in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft by Minnesota United FC.
Â
Laguna has obtained his USSF C License, and he earned a master's in Sport Management through the Johan Cruyff Institute and the University of Barcelona. His undergraduate Sports Management degree came from Graceland University.
Â
Laguna also served as a head coach for Evolution SC (Omaha, Neb.) from 2022 through 2025 and was an assistant coach at Graceland during the 2021 season.
Â
Prior to coaching, Laguna earned Daktronics Scholar-Athlete honors (2019 & 2020) while competing at Graceland from 2017-2020. He was team captain during his final two seasons.
