INDIANAPOLIS — The Butler men's golf team opened play at the Dorado Beach Collegiate Sunday, finishing the first round tied for fifth place.

Derek Tabor is tied for second place and is the current leader for the Bulldogs squad after shooting 70 (-2) for the first round. His round featured seven birdies. Ethan Blomme shot a one-over 73 Sunday and stands in 17th with 36 holes remaining.

The Bulldogs finished the round with a combined score of 293 (+5). Among the 15-team field, Elon leads the tournament with a combined score of 288 (E) after the opening round.

BJ Boyce of the University of North Carolina Greensboro leads the tournament after an opening-round 69 (-3). 

The second round in Dorado, Puerto Rico, is scheduled for Monday.
