Big Offensive Performance by Wofford Leads to Dawgs Loss

Maryville, Tenn.- The Butler women's lacrosse team fell to Wofford 22-14 on Friday afternoon in a neutral-site contest played in Maryville, Tenn..
 
Riley Ryan got the Dawgs on the board first taking the 1-0 lead only one minute into the contest. Wofford added a quick four goals after to take the lead five minutes in. The Bulldogs responded with goals from Emma Palmer and Elise Latham. Wofford added four more goals to take the five-point lead. The Terriers would take the lead 8-3 going into the second quarter. 
 
Butler responded one minute into the second quarter with a goal by Grace Churchwell. Wofford recorded three-straight goals to add to their lead. Genna Sulek and Sarah Gastineau would get on the board for the Dawgs to try and chip away at the Terriers' lead, but Wofford scored twice to take the lead 13-6 going into the half. 
 
After the half, Wofford scored five goals throughout the quarter. Kerrin McGovern gave the Bulldogs their first goal of the quarter in the final three minutes of the third. Wofford headed into the fourth quarter with a 18-7 lead. 
 
Butler got on the board first with a goal from Maggie Lewis. Palmer and Latham recorded their second goals of the game to cut the Terriers' lead to single digits. Wofford got on the board for the first time in the fourth with 11 minutes to play. Lewis would record her second goal of the game and Rylie Smith got on the board. Wofford would respond by adding two goals. Latham and Lewis recorded their third goals of the day, but it would not be enough as Dawgs fell 22-14.

  • Palmer tied her career-high with two goals in a single game. 
  • Lewis tied her season-high with three goals in one game. 
  • Sulek and Madelyn Harmeyer recorded three ground balls each. 
  • McGovern, Emily Eckert, Patricia Lynn, Sulek, and Harmeyer recorded two ground balls each.
