Bulldogs Down Ball State 8-5 in Five-Inning Contest

INDIANAPOLIS - Butler defeated Ball State 8-5 on Tuesday afternoon in five innings after the game was called due to weather in the Indianapolis area. With the win, Butler improves to 14-22 overall while Ball State slides to 18-18.

BULLDOG HIGHLIGHTS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ball State got the scoring started in the first with a two-out RBI single. The Cardinals added another in the ensuing at-bat with an RBI single from Kenskey Thomas. BSU added another run before the end of the frame on a wild pitch as the visitors took the 3-0 lead into the bottom of the first. BSU kept Butler off the board in the bottom half of the inning as the visitors' lead stood at three.
  • With two outs and one on, Moore stepped up to the dish for BU. The junior belted his first home of the season to deep left center, cutting the deficit to one (3-2) for the Dawgs.
  • After a scoreless top of the third, Butler loaded the bases with two outs. Thaxton was hit by a pitch, scoring a run for BU as the score evened at 3-3. In the ensuing at-bat, Butler scratched across another run on a wild pitch as BU took its first lead of the day at 4-3.
  • Ball State responded in the fourth, scoring two runs on an RBI single as the Cardinals retook the lead at 5-4. Crock started the inning reaching first on an error. In the ensuing at-bat, an error from the second baseman allowed Crock to score from first and Gavin reached second on the error as Butler evened the score with no outs in the frame. BU was able to add another on a sac fly to deep center before the Cardinals grabbed the third out of the frame. Butler took the 6-5 lead into the fifth.
  • After keeping BSU off the board in the top of the inning, Butler plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth off an RBI single from Crock that gave the Bulldogs an 8-5 advantage. After the conclusion of the fifth inning, the game was paused due to lightning in the area and was later called. Butler secured the 8-5 five-inning victory.
