Butler Softball’s Alexander Named BIG EAST Player of the Week; Berger Also Recognized

| By:

Butler infielder Makena Alexander has been selected by the BIG EAST as Player of the Week, and teammate Maren Berger was named to the Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference on Monday. Each student-athlete was chosen for her performance during last week's games against Dayton and at DePaul.

Alexander went 7-for-13 with four runs scored and six RBI, contributing a double and home run, as Butler went 3-1 this week. She registered at least one hit and one RBI in every outing of the BIG EAST series versus DePaul. In Sunday's finale, the junior went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored, including a solo home run in the third inning.

Berger owned a 1.26 ERA and 3-0 record with seven strikeouts over 16.2 innings of work in the circle for the Bulldogs. The sophomore tossed two complete games in victories over DePaul, registering a shutout in the series finale (W, 6-0).

Butler will play its final series of the regular season when BIG EAST leader Providence comes to Indianapolis this coming weekend. The Bulldogs can qualify for a spot in the four-team postseason BIG EAST Tournament by winning one of its final three games. Alternatively, if Georgetown loses just one of its final six conference games, Butler will secure one of the four postseason spots.
