Butler Ready for BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships

| By:
The Butler men's and women's track and field teams will head to the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships with competition in Storrs, Conn., scheduled Thursday through Saturday.

The Bulldog men are looking to build on their fifth-place finish at the 2025 outdoor conference championships. This year, the team will be led by William Zegarski, Seth Mahony, and Eli Fullerton, who will run in the 5,000 meters.

Zegarski will also compete in the men's 10,000meters and looks to defend his 2025 title in the event. He became the sixth consecutive Bulldog to win the BIG EAST 10,000-meter title. He will run alongside Fullerton, Kyle Grove, Brendan Thomas, and Matthew Forrester.

Bulldogs Owen Whitney and Sean Byrnes are among the start list for the men's 3000-meter steeple.

Joe Pierro looks to defend his outdoor 200-meter BIG EAST championship title from a season ago. His time of 21.25 was a personal-best and marked the second consecutive Bulldog to win the event (Luke Finnegan, 2024). Troy Larrison will represent the Bulldogs in the 400 meters while BJ Shaw will do the same in the 100 meters. Ryan Elston will compete in the 800 meters.

The Bulldog men are competing in two relays during the Championships. These relays will not be finalized until event day.

The 4x100-meter relay could include Larrison, Lairden Rogge, Shaw, Pierro, Cabott Craft, and Sean Davies.  The 4x400-meter relay squad includes options in Larrison, Pierro, Shaw, Rogge, Davies, and Edward Mumford

In the field, Craft will compete in long jump and triple jump and Mumford is on the high jump entry list.

In the multis, Butler will have one competitor on each side with Davies in the men's decathlon and junior Lily Wharton in the women's heptathlon. At the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in 2025, Wharton became the fifth different Bulldog to medal in the event in the last five years.

On the women's side, freshman Anna Niebrugge has emerged as one of the Bulldogs' top runners, holding the top mark on the team in both the 100 meters and 200 meters; her times are also the school record in both events. Lauren Doerr will join Niebrugge for the 100 meters.

Jenna Plank will join Niebrugge as part of the 200-meter field.

Niebrugge will be part of the 4x100-meter relay team, joining a combination of teammate options in Grace Stedge, Plank, Doerr, Wharton, Allie Minier, and Jenna Doezema. The possible representation for the Bulldogs in the women's 4x400-meter relay could include Doezema, Minier, Plank, Stedge, Carys Glyn-Jones, and Cameron Kirtley. The relay teams will not be finalized until the day of the event.

Doezema will represent the Dawgs in the 400-meter event and Minier will be the representative for the 400-meter hurdles.
