HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Duncan started the first with a leadoff single and was eventually brought home on an RBI double from Gilmore. With two outs, Baker ripped a double to left field that scored Gilmore, giving BU an early 2-0 advantage.
  • Seton Hall responded in the second with an RBI double that plated one run for the Pirates. SHU wasn't done yet as the Pirates evened the score with a sac bunt one batter later. The Dawgs responded in the bottom half of the frame putting two on by way of walk. Rhoades stepped up to the dish and laced a single through the right side that plated two runs for BU as Butler retook the lead at 4-2.
  • Butler was able to load the bases in the third with two outs. Back-to-back bases loaded walks plated two runs for BU. A wild pitch allowed another Bulldog runner to score, extending the lead to five heading into the fourth (7-2).
  • With two on in the fourth, Ayers laced a single through the right side scoring another run for the Dawgs as the Butler lead stood at 8-2. A wild pitch allowed another run to score for Butler as the Dawgs took the seven-run advantage into the back half of the contest.
  • SHU plated two runs on an RBI single in the top of the sixth as the Pirates got on the board for the first time since the second frame. BU loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth before a walk plated a run. A fielder's choice paired with an SHU error allowed two more to score for BU before a sac fly plated another as the Bulldog lead grew to nine (13-4).
