Conner Varney, who worked alongside Ronald Nored with the Atlanta Hawks for three seasons, has joined Nored's Butler coaching staff as the Director of Strategy and Video.
 
In this role at Butler, Varney will lead the program's operations related to video and analytics. This includes managing film breakdown, scouting data analysis, player tracking, and equipment to support Butler coaches and players.
 
"Working alongside Conner for the last few years, I have had a front-row seat to his basketball acumen and work ethic," said Nored. "He has the strong ability to digest complex data and schemes to efficiently and articulately present strategies and analysis to coaches and players alike that allows us to prepare well for games and make in-game adjustments. I'm excited that the next step on his coaching journey will be helping us thrive here at Butler."
 
Varney has been with the Atlanta Hawks since 2023. He served as the head video coordinator for two seasons before spending the 2025-26 season as a coaching associate. Nored and Varney worked together on Quin Snyder's staff for each of those three seasons.
 
As a coaching associate with the Hawks, Varney managed coaching analytics including opponent scouting, postgame reports, and team self-evaluation reports. He assisted with game strategy and preparation, special situations, and dead ball offense. Varney also assisted with Coach's Challenge recommendations in-game.
 
His NBA experience extends to both the Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz. Varney served as the assistant video coordinator with the Suns during the 2022-23 season. He held several roles during five seasons with the Jazz, culminating as the assistant video coordinator during the 2021-22 campaign following stints as the player development, advanced scouting and video associate for two seasons, and a broadcast assistant/statistical researcher for two seasons dating back to 2017.
