PREVIEW: Bulldogs Travel to Wright State Sunday to Open Regular Season

The Butler women's soccer team opens the 2026 regular season on the road. The Bulldogs will face Wright State on its campus in Dayton, Ohio.

Bulldog Bits
  • Chloe Brecht was chosen for the 2026 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. The defender/midfielder was an All-BIG EAST Third Team selection in 2025 who notched a pair of goals and also dished out four assists.
  • Gemma Gillespie, a defender from Rolling Meadows, Illinois, represented the senior Puerto Rico women's national team during the 2026 CONCACAF W Championship qualifiers this past spring. She tallied one goal in a win over Saint Vincent and also notched an assist.
     
  • Butler has replaced 11 players from the 2025 roster with three transfers (Lily Kiliski/Boston College, Riley Gumm/San Diego State, Isabella Ayau/San Francisco) and 10 freshmen.
  • 2026 will be Co-Head Coach Tari St. John's 21st at the helm of the Butler women's soccer program. Co-Head Coach Rob Alman begins his 15th.
     
  • The Bulldogs were selected by BIG EAST coaches at No. 8 in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll. Georgetown received the most points, including 8 first-place votes.  UConn was second with two first-place votes, followed by Xavier in the third spot with one first-place vote.
The Opponent
  • Wright State opened the 2026 season with a 0-0 draw at Southern Indiana on Thursday evening.
  • Last season, the Raiders produced an overall 7-7-5 record, going 4-1-5 in the Horizon League.
  • Head Coach Travis Sobers enters his sixth season in 2026.
  • WSU returns five players who scored multiple goals last season: #33 Caitlin Burger (4g, 4a), #29 Olivia Stroud (4g, 1a), #13 Ruby Dunlevy (3g, 5a), #28 Taliah Pellizzari (2g, 0a), and #7 Addy Canter (2g, 0a).
