Butler Nets Three and Shuts Out Central Michigan

INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler women's soccer team scored one first-half goal and added two more after the break in a 3-0 shutout of Central Michigan on Sunday afternoon. The visiting Chippewas (2-4-1) were limited to just six shots with only two on frame. The Bulldogs (4-2-1) are currently on a three-game winning streak and have scored nine goals in those three contests.

Key Moments
  • 18' | Central Michigan's Ella Dykstra plays Ella Betzold open in the midfield, and Betzold plays back to Dykstra in the box. She unleashes a left-footed shot from 12 yards out, but it sails wide.
  • 24' | Chloe Brecht slips past her defender on the right side and whips a cross toward the back post. Sarah Monnin is right there to receive it, but her header bounces just wide.
  • 43' | Brecht wins a loose clearance and springs a three-on-two chance for Butler down the right side. She finds Kylie Secoda in the middle of the area, whose shot is blocked — but it caroms to Alyssa Carlson at the far post. After being denied once by the keeper, Carlson finishes the second try from four yards out. The Dawgs open the scoring just before the break.
     -- HALFTIME --
  • 52' | Riley Gumm sends Monnin down the pitch on the left side with a give-and-go. Monnin beats her defender one-on-one and puts it home from the top of the area with her left foot. Butler stretches the lead to 2-0.
  • 59' | Central Michigan's clearance falls right to Lola Pepper at the edge of the box. Pepper only needs two touches and curls a knuckling shot into the top corner with her right foot.
