Matthew McCarroll took over as the running back coach at Butler in 2019. He spent time at Marian University before joining the Bulldog coaching staff.
 
McCarroll completed his bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State in 2013 and received his master's degree in Recreation and Sport Pedagogy from Ohio University in 2015.
 
While at Ohio, McCarroll served as a graduate assistant and was in charge of filming spring practices and breaking down film for position coaches. He then came to Indianapolis in August 2015 and was hired as the receivers coach at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School.
 
McCarroll was in charge of breaking down opponent film for the offense and served as the point person for prospective student-athletes and their families on visits. Following his time at Brebeuf, McCarroll spent one season at DePauw University as the running backs coach.
 
He is a member of the AFCA and USA Football.
