Ray Holmes joined the Butler Football program in January of 2022 as the team’s wide receiver coach. He was promoted to the program's pass game coordinator heading into the 2023 campaign. Holmes previously held coaching positions at Temple and Northern Illinois.
Holmes helped a freshman emerge into the top target for the Bulldogs in 2023. Ethan Loss led the team with 41 receptions and paced the wide receiver room with a team-best 515 yards. A Fourth Team Phil Steele All-PFL pick, Loss ranked ninth in the PFL in receptions and fifth in yards.
In 2022, Holmes oversaw a talented position group that included Second Team All-PFL selection Luke Wooten and Indianapolis Colts rookie minicamp attendee Tyler Adams. Wooten led all Bulldogs with 58 receptions and Adams was the team leader in receiving yards (689).
Before arriving at Butler, Holmes coached at Temple as an offensive graduate assistant. He joined the Owls in the 2020 summer.
Holmes kicked off his coaching career at Northern Illinois where he spent four years working as a student assistant. At NIU, Holmes primarily worked with the running backs while obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Advocacy and Public Communication.
A native of Evergreen Park, Illinois, Holmes earned his master’s degree in Higher Education at Temple in spring 2022.
