Sean Chase joined the Butler football coaching staff in February of 2023. With the Bulldogs, Chase coaches tight ends and running backs while serving as the program's run game coordinator. Prior to arriving on campus, Chase coached at Culver-Stockton College and Northern Illinois.

Butler’s rushing attack in 2023 was memorable for Bulldog fans as the team grinded out 202 yards per game on the ground. Jyran Mitchell was recognized as the PFL Offensive Player of the Year and was a Third Team All-American (Stats Perform). Mitchell ended the 2023 regular season with 1,268 rushing yards, the ninth-most ever at Butler in a single-season. He ranked fifth among all FCS running backs in rushing yards per game and seventh in total rushing yards.

Chase graduated from Northern Illinois in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in Arts in Rhetoric and Public Communication. During his time there, he served as the head student equipment manager. After graduation, he stayed with the Huskies program for two years serving as a graduate assistant working with the offensive line.

In 2018, Chase took on a new role as offensive line coach at Culver-Stockton College, a NAIA program located in Canton, Missouri. During his time at Culver-Stockton, he was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2021 and then to associate head coach in 2022.

In 2019, Chase coached four All-Conference offensive lineman (two second-team and two first-team) and the freshman offensive conference player of the year. As the offensive coordinator he helped the Wildcats post an 8-3 record in 2021—a school record for wins in a season. He also coached Andrew Rupcich, helping him earn an NFL contract as a free agent with the Tennessee Titans. Most recently, 2022 saw Chase serve as interim head coach for one game, leading the Wildcats to a 49-21 win.Â
