Butler University Athletics

Chris Tinkey has been a member of the Butler University Sports Medicine staff since 2008. He was hired originally as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. In 2010, he was promoted to Associate Athletic Trainer. His primary responsibility at Butler since he was hired has been as the primary athletic trainer for the football team. From 2008-2012, he also was the primary athletic trainer for the men’s and women’s tennis teams as well. Since his promotion to Associate Athletic Trainer, he also now coordinates the insurance claims process for our student athletes as well as oversees our certified intern athletic trainer.

Tinkey also took on additional responsibilities as the interim director of sports medicine from February-July, 2019. 

Tinkey earned his Master's Degree in Sports Administration at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., in May 2008. While at Ball State, he served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer working with the baseball and football teams.  Prior to Ball State, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich., in April of 2006. Tinkey has been certified as an Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainer's Association since 2006.

Originally from St. Joseph, Mich., he and his wife Andrea have two children, Gracelyn and Lydia.  They reside in Speedway, Ind.
