PRIOR TO BUTLER: Selected as Iowa’s 2024-25 Gatorade State Player of the Year…named to the First-Team All-State by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association following his senior campaign at Iowa City West…consensus four-star recruit ranked as the No. 89 player in the Class of 2025 by ESPN…averaged a 21.2 points per game as a senior…also led West High School with 3.3 assists and 1.3 blocked shots per game to go with 7.3 rebounds per game…during his junior season with Iowa City West High School, he averaged 16.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.9 blocks, shooting nearly 50 percent from the field and better than 80 percent at the free throw line…played for Madden Brothers 17U on the UAA Rise circuit during the summer of 2024, averaging 18.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per contest…his 36-point performance against Atlanta All-Stars included nine three-pointers.
 
PERSONAL: Son of Fran and Margaret McCaffery…father is Penn’s head men’s basketball coach after previously leading the programs at Iowa, Siena, UNC Greensboro, and Lehigh…Fran played basketball at Wake Forest and Penn…his mother, Margaret, was an All-American basketball player at Notre Dame (maiden name is Nowlin)…has three older siblings, Connor, Patrick and Marit…Connor joined the Butler coaching staff prior to the 2024-25 season after spending the 2023-24 season working for the Indiana Pacers…Patrick finished his collegiate career playing for Butler during the 2024-25 season…both Connor and Patrick played for Fran at Iowa.
