PRIOR TO BUTLER: Lehner helped lead her high school team to consecutive IHSSA 4A State Softball Championships with records of 33-0 in 2022 and 32-2 in 2021. Her team was crowned national champion by MaxPreps and also designated the 6th best high school team of all time. Coached by David Lauck, Lehner received all-conference and all-county honors as she batted .465 as a senior and .415 as a junior. She also holds the state record for RBI in a 4A state championship game (4) and is tied for most hits (3) at the same event. Lehner is a four-sport athlete who has also participated in soccer, basketball, and track and field. She traveled with Indy Dreams (Jeff Mader) and was a member of the National Honor Society, receiving Academic All-State recognition.
Coach Hall on Lehner: "Cate is another local talent that we couldn't let get away. She brings speed and coverage to the outfield and the ability to apply pressure to the defense when she is at the plate. Cate knows what winning looks like as a state champion in softball, and we expect her to bring that attitude with her. Even though she is a cat lover, she has no issues being a DAWG!"
