Tyler Golsteyn

Tyler Golsteyn joined Kyle Shondell's initial coaching staff at Butler as an assistant coach in April of 2023.

Golsteyn arrived at Butler after spending the last three seasons at Eastern Michigan. He was elevated to the program’s associate head coach for the 2022 campaign after serving as EMU’s assistant coach and recruiting coordinator the first two seasons.

Golsteyn helped Raeven Chase to All-Mid American Conference first-team honors in both 2021 and 2022. In 2022, Chase finished first in the conference with 135 total blocks and 1.23 blocks per set, and third in the league in hitting percentage (.352). The Toronto, Ontario native finished 10th in the regular season in the NCAA in total blocks (135) and fourth in the nation in solo blocks (36). Samantha Basham also earned All-MAC honors in 2021.

Eight Eagles were named to the 2022 Academic All-MAC Team.

The Nashville, Tenn., native began his collegiate coaching career at North Dakota State. Golsteyn then joined the Purdue program in 2018 as the volunteer assistant coach before serving as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at East Carolina in 2019.

In his one season with East Carolina as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator (2019), he helped ECU to a 19-11 overall record, which tied for the fewest losses in ECU program history, and coached right side Bri Wood to the American All-Conference second team honors. Golsteyn assisted in the implementation of the Pirates' new offensive system where ECU finished third in the AAC in both kill percentage (.236) and hitting efficiency.

Prior to his arrival at ECU, Golsteyn had a one-year stint as a volunteer assistant coach at Purdue (2018), assisting in all aspects of on-court training with a primary focus on blocking and attacking. He also helped mentor Sherridan Atkinson and Blake Mohler to American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American accolades, All-Big Ten honors, and AVCA All-Northeast Region recognition.

From 2016-18, he served as a graduate assistant and the director of volleyball operations at North Dakota State. The Bison went 52-39 with a 30-16 Summit League mark during Golsteyn's three years on staff. During Golsteyn's tenure, NDSU registered as the best defensive team in the league. The Bison led the Summit League with 18.95 digs per set, 1.63 aces per set, and second with 2.25 blocks per set in 2017.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Golsteyn has also worked extensively at the club and high school level including stints at Fort Wayne Bishop Luers High School, Impact VBC, Pineapple Sport One Volleyball Club, and Alliance Volleyball Club.

Golsteyn played in 81 career matches for Purdue Fort Wayne as a setter and libero from 2011-2016. During his playing career, he was a four-time Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association All-Academic selection.

He graduated from Purdue Fort Wayne in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in business accounting and management, and completed his master's degree in business administration at North Dakota State in 2018.
