Men's Tennis Falls 6-1 to Xavier

INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler men's tennis team took a 6-1 loss to Xavier on Friday afternoon. The setback moves the Bulldogs to 0-2 in BIG EAST action with two conference matches remaining on the schedule before the BIG EAST Tournament set for April 24.

The Musketeers opened doubles competition with a commanding 8-1 victory over BU at the No. 1 spot, but the point would come down to the wire as the Bulldogs battled to a pair of 8-7 losses in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Sam O'Neill and Tommy Marx represented the Blue and White at No. 2 while the tandem of Pulok Bhattacharya and Brandon Woods came up just short at No.3 doubles.

Xavier was able to seal the win with the top of the singles lineup all recording wins. Zach Mueck defeated Sam O'Neill 6-0, 7-6 to start singles play and Mesa Mei would increase the XU cushion with a 6-2, 6-1 No. 2 singles win over Bhattacharya. The final Bulldog to sit down in straight sets was Austin Woldmoe who lost 7-6, 6-2 at No. 1.

The bottom of the order went down in order, and every match was a good one going the full three-sets. Adam Krull knocked off Marx 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 at No. 4 singles, but the Bulldogs would not be shut out as Brandon Woods defeated Matt Bishop 4-6, 7-6, 10-6 at No. 5 Singles to put BU on the scoreboard. Rounding out the action was Weldon and Jeremy Schneider at No. 6. Schneider won 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
