Box Score
MILWAUKEE- Butler lost their Sunday afternoon conference match to the Golden Eagles of Marquette. The loss moves BU's overall record to 10-6-2, while their conference record sits at 3-4-1.
Co-Head Coach
Tari St. John was happy with the teams effort, "I am proud of our team's fight to get us back in it and force overtime after going a goal down. In terms of effort, there is nothing to hang our heads about." St. John was also impressed with the Butler performance against a strong conference foe, "Marquette is now vying for a BIG EAST Championshup and we went toe to toe. It should give us confidence as we head to Xavier."
Â
McKenzie Muchow put the Bulldogs on the board just short of the 67th minute after she redirected a ball in the box to beat the goalie. The goal was Muchow's first of the season and credit for the assist would go to
Serina Kashimoto, her sixth of the season.
Â
Paige Monaghan and
Jamison Midgley took six of the 'Dawgs eight shots for the afternoon. Monaghan took a team-high four shots during the match, while Midgley was just behind with two shots.
Â
The Butler defense was tested early and often when Marquette got their first of 16 shots for the game just 37 seconds into play.
Hannah Luedtke played in goal for the entire match and with seven saves she was one shy of tying her season-high.
Â
90 minutes was not enough time for the conference match. Following Muchow's goal neither team could get another during regulation. Marquette would capitalize three minutes into overtime on a chip shot that would end the match 2-1.
Â
The Marquette victory clinches the Golden Eagles berth in the BIG EAST Conference Tournament. With the 'Dawgs loss and Creighton victory Butler will be bumped from their spot at sixth in the conference rankings with one remaining match in the regular season.
Â
Butler will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio for their final regular season game against the Xavier Musketeers. The match will take place on October 28th and gets underway at 6:30PM. Â
