INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler volleyball team ended the 2016 campaign on a high note by defeating the DePaul Blue Demons 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-19). Senior
Jessica Klingensmith capped off her career with the game-winning kill.
Klingensmith finished the match with three kills and a team-high four blocks. The BU offense was led by
Anna Logan who notched 15 kills. Redshirt sophomore
Whitney Beck also impacted the match with 11 kills, seven digs and three blocks.
Makayla Ferguson set up the action with a team-high 28 assists. She added five kills, three digs and a block to her stat line.
After a back and forth start to the first set, Butler grabbed a commanding lead by going on an 11-3 scoring run. BU broke a 7-7 tie to race out to an eight-point lead in part to a balanced attack. In the end, Logan and Beck would get BU the 1-0 advantage with kills down the stretch. Beck notched six kills in the opener while Logan added four.
Set two was never in question with Butler claiming a 25-11 win. BU ended the set on an 8-1 scoring run to take a 2-0 edge into the break. Logan once again posted four kills for BU and the Bulldogs would win the team block battle 5-0.
The third set was the most competitive of the day, but Logan would prove to be too much for DePaul. The sophomore outside hitter recorded seven kills while hitting .636 vs. the Blue Demons in the third. Butler broke a 6-6 tie early to grab a 17-10 lead.
Christina Porada would move BU to set point and Klingensmith would come up with a key kill on Senior Day to give Butler the 3-0 victory.
