INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs took a 6-1 loss at home against Green Bay on Saturday but came back to record a 5-2 victory at SIUE on Sunday to record their first win of the year. Adrian Mag and Spencer Lang highlighted the weekend by picking up a pair of wins for BU at No. 3 doubles.
Butler earned the doubles point against Green Bay, although the Phoenix came back to win all six single matches. Lang and Mag posted a 6-4 win at No. 3 and the No. 1 team of Mikheil Khmiadashvili and Mason Dragos came up clutch with a 7-6 win.
Green Bay took control of the top of the lineup with straight set victories at 1-4. Ari Gerstein was knocked off at No. 5 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 and Alex Woldmoe came up just short at No. 6 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.
The 'Dawgs were also able to earn the doubles point on Sunday at SIUE. Mag and Lang won 6-2 at No. 3 while Gerstein and Woldmoe took down Jack Desse and Nico Kuehn 6-2 at No. 2.
The final four points of the day would come during singles competition with Dragos, Gerstein, Mag and Woldmoe all coming out on top. Dragos won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, earning the first win of singles play. He was followed closely by Gerstein who made it 3-0 for BU with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4.
The shutout continued with Mag earning a 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 5, but SIUE would then get on the scoreboard with a win at No. 1.
Woldmoe would be the final BU winner of the day with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Mike Raymond. With the win, Butler improves to 1-2 on the year. The team will return to action this Friday at Dayton. Action picks up at 5 PM.
