INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler women's tennis team traveled to Illinois over the weekend to face SIUE and Illinois State. The first outing was a road match at SIUE where the Cougars claimed a 7-0 sweep. The weekend came to a close at Illinois State with the Redbirds defeating BU 6-1.
Butler's lone win was recorded by Rachel Sutton at No. 4 singles against Illinois State. Sutton battled back to defeat Jana Kustkova 3-6, 7-6, 10-5. The Redbirds won the five other matches in straight-sets although Bailey Padgett battled at No. 1 against Veronika Golanova. She came up just short 6-4, 7-6.
The doubles point went to the home team during each event. Illinois State won 6-3 at No. 2 and No. 3 while claiming a 6-2 win at No. 1. SIUE picked up a pair of 6-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 for the first point of the contest.
Kailey Eaton played well at No. 4 singles to push her match to a third set, but she was ultimately defeated 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 by McKenzie Thomas.
