INDIANAPOLIS -- The Butler men's tennis team finished the weekend with one win and two losses to move their overall record to 2-4. They defeated Northwestern Ohio on Saturday night after falling to Dayton and Valparaiso.
The weekend got underway on Friday afternoon with the Bulldogs traveling to Dayton. The Flyers earned the doubles point en route to claiming a 5-2 victory.
Freshman Spencer Lang won the most exciting match of the day for the Bulldogs. After dropping the first set 6-7, he came back and won set two 7-5. The tiebreaker was highly entertaining with Lang coming out on top 11-9.
Fellow freshman Adrian Mag also earned a win for the Bulldogs at Dayton. Mag made quick work of his opponent to win 6-4, 6-2 in straight-sets.
The Bulldogs returned to action the very next day to host Valparaiso and Northwestern Ohio at the Butler Bubble. The team was unable to get anything going against the Crusaders as Valpo recorded a 7-0 victory.
The nightcap was a different story however as Butler bounced back to defeat Northwestern Ohio 6-1. The doubles point went to Butler with the Bulldogs earning wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Adrian Mag and Spencer Lang dominated No. 3 doubles 6-1 and a tough 7-5 win from Alex Woldmoe and Ari Gerstein gave BU the go-ahead point.
Northwestern Ohio avoided the shutout by picking up a three-set win at No. 1 Singles. Butler would take control of the match however by winning the other five matches.
Junior Alex Woldmoe defeated Theo Baudin in three sets 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 4. Freshman Ari Gerstein also took his match in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
Junior Mikheil Khmiadashvili won at No. 3 singles in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Lang and Mag also took their singles matches in straight sets winning 6-4, 6-4, and 6-1, 6-3, respectively at No. 5 and No. 6.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 11 with a home match against Indianapolis.
