Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – Butler came out on top Sunday afternoon to win the weekend series against Georgetown with a 12-6 victory against the Hoyas. After splitting the first two games, Butler's offense paved the way for the getaway game win as the Bulldogs notched nine hits to score 12 runs.
Tyler Houston was heavily involved in today's outcome as the BU centerfielder ended the game 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Chris Marras and Connor Dall shared the team RBI lead with three each while Marras and Small each came around to score three runs for the home team.
Starting pitcher Jeff Schank was impressive over seven full innings of action. The lefty won his first game of the season by striking out nine batters and only allowing two walks. Two of the three runs that scored off Schank were earned with each coming off a solo homerun.
Zach Barnes entered the game for the final two innings to get Butler to the finish line. He allowed three earned runs in the ninth inning off four total hits.
The game got off to a fast start for Butler as the Bulldogs posted three runs in the bottom half of the first. A double down the line from Marras would score two and Gehrig Parker would increase the lead with his RBI double to left center.
Georgetown got on the scoreboard in the second off a solo shot from Michael Derenzi, but BU got the run back immediately after a Houston RBI double to left. The Hoyas would stick around however as Ryan Weisenberg took Schank yard in the top of the third inning.
Butler returned to the driver's seat in the bottom of the fifth inning with a four run frame that would increase their lead to 8-2. Houston led off with a double and would come around to score off a Marras single to right. With Marras on and no outs, Georgetown would quickly load the bases by walking Jordan Lucio and Parker sending Connor Dall to the dish. Dall doubled down the leftfield line to clear the bases and open up the large lead.
BU would score a pair in both the seventh and eighth innings to keep their distance and a late three-run rally from the Hoyas would fade away giving BU the 12-6 win.
Butler now sits at 3-6 in the conference with yet another home series coming up, this time against the Xavier Musketeers. Game one will be aired live on the BIG EAST Digital Network on Friday with game two appearing on Fox College Sports.
