CAYCE, S.C. -- #3 DePaul defeated #6 Butler 4-1 on Saturday afternoon in the 2016 Men's Tennis BIG EAST Tournament Quarterfinals. Adrian Mag was responsible for the BU point after defeating Paul John 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 Singles.
The day got off to a rocky start as the Blue Demons secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 1. Alex Woldmoe an Ari Gerstein were defeated 6-2 by Alex Galoustian and Jan Willem Feilzer at 2 while Mason Dragos and Mikheil Khmiadashvili took a 6-4 loss at 1 to Sten Leusink and Nathan de Veer.
Singles action would begin with de Veer winning at No. 4 over Spencer Lang 7-6, 6-1 and DePaul would move forward to take a commanding lead after a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win from Leusik at No. 1 over Mason Dragos.
Mag kept Butler alive with his win at No. 5, but the match would end quickly after with Tim Corwin beating Woldmoe 7-6, 6-4 at No. 6.
