@ButlerVB Drops First Conference Matchup 3-2

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.- Butler opened up BIG EAST competition this evening against the Pirates of Seaton Hall. The 'Dawgs took the match the distance, but ended up losing to the Pirates 3-2 (18-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 13-15).
 
Anna Logan eclipsed 20 kills yet again in the match, finishing the five sets with 21 kills and adding 9 digs for BU. Makayla Ferguson was active as well on the offensive end. The junior accounted for a match-high 44 assists and added two service aces.
 
On the defensive side Jade York, Christina Porada and Taylor Takeda all amassed double digit digs during the match. York contributed 12 digs, Porada had 14 and Takeda had a team-high 18 digs in the match.
 
The 'Dawgs dropped the first set of conference play to the Pirates 18-25. The set saw active offensive performances from Logan, Whitney Beck and Brooke Gregory. Logan led BU with five kills during the set while Beck and Gregory contributed three kills apiece for Butler.
 
Butler rebounded in the second set and defeated the Pirates 25-21. The 'Dawgs got off to a good start with Ferguson serving four straight points, which put the Bulldog lead at 8-2. Two late kills by Gregory vaulted BU to victory in the last two plays of the set.
 
The Pirates battled back and took down the 'Dawgs 25-22 in the third set. The Pirates saw a comfortable lead until Jessica Klingensmith took over serving for Butler when they were down 14-21. Klingensmith served four straight points to pull BU back to only down 18-21. Brianna Lilly was active on the offensive end, adding four kills on the set for the Bulldogs.
 
BU evened up the match at two sets apiece in the fourth when they defeated the Pirates 25-19. Ferguson got the set off to a great start with serving three straight points, including one of her two service aces. Lilly was effective on offense again, adding a set-high five kills for the 'Dawgs.
 
Seaton Hall edged out BU in the fifth set, 15-13, and captured a match victory. Gregory led the attack for the Bulldogs on the set, amassing four kills. Beck and Logan also added two kills apiece to support the BU offense.
 
Butler will return to action tomorrow in their second conference match again St. Johns. The game, taking place in Queens, N.Y. will get started at 5PM.
