QUEENS – Butler recorded their first conference win of the season by defeating the St. John's Red Storm 3-1 on Saturday evening (22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 26-24). The victory moved Butler's overall record to 12-6.
Anna Logan paced the offensive unit with a team-high 18 kills. The sophomore posted a double-double by adding 11 digs.
Jessica Klingensmith and
Brooke Gregory joined Logan with double digit kills posting 13 and 10 respectively.
Makayla Ferguson also notched a double-double with 48 assists and 11 digs. The team's dig leader was
Taylor Takeda with 24.
The Bulldogs won the battle of the net by posting 15 team blocks.
Bri Lilly finished the contest with 10 blocks, Logan added seven and Gregory was in the box score with five.
The conference foes came together at 18-18 in the first set. Neither team could pull away until the closing stages as St. John's scored three-straight to secure the win 25-22.
Set two was tight from the opening serve, but the Bulldogs broke a 23-23 tie to score the final two points to win 25-23. BU took control of set three at the midway point and went on to take control of the action with 25-21 victory.
Extra points were needed in the fourth with Butler taking the 26-24 win. St. John's tied the game at 23-23 and would get to set point after a BU ball handling error. With their backs against the wall, Butler would pull even with a kill from Klingensmith. Logan then came up with a kill to go up 25-24 and a STJ attack error would end the game 26-24.
