INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler volleyball team will return to action this weekend with a pair of home matches at Hinkle Fieldhouse. On Friday night, Butler will take the court against the Providence Friars at 6 PM. The match will stream live on the BIG EAST Digital Network. The month of October will feature Butler hosting the Creighton Bluejays on Saturday afternoon. The first 250 fans in attendance will receive pink t-shirts!

Logan Leads the BIG EAST in Kills
Anna Logan is one of the top offensive talents in the country and she has the numbers to prove it. Heading into the weekend, Logan ranks fourth in the NCAA in both total kills (318) and points (361). The focal point of the BU offensive attack is hitting .271 on the year to average 4.54 kills per set.
Ferguson Moves to 6th All-Time in Career Assists
Makayla Ferguson has been an impact player at Butler since her rookie season in 2014 when she earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors. Now in her junior season, the standout setter has moved to sixth place all-time at Butler in the career assists category with 2,772. The Martinsville, Ind. native has surpassed 50 assists two different times this season with 58 vs. Gonzaga in the 2016 season opener (5-sets) and 52 in a four-set victory against Loyola. Her career-high total in a single-game came during her freshman campaign when she posted 60 in a five-set match vs. St. John's.
Logan Lands on BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Anna Logan helped lead Butler to a 1-1 road week with a four-set win over St. John's and a five-set loss at Seton Hall with 4.33 kills, 2.22 digs, 1.00 blocks and 5.00 points per set. She boasted 21 kills in the loss to the Pirates and 18 kills, 11 digs in the 3-1 win over St. John's.
Strong Month of September for Butler
The Bulldogs recorded 10 wins during the month of September for just the fourth time under the guidance of Head Coach
Sharon Clark (2000, 2008, 2013). This year's team went on a nine-match winning streak from Sept. 3-16 in order to reach the feat. During that span, Butler only lost three sets.
Takeda Takes Control of BU Defense
Newcomer
Taylor Takeda stepped into the starting libero role for Butler at the start of the season and has never looked back. The transfer from Dowling College currently leads the team with 268 digs (3.83 per set). She is coming off a 24 dig performance at St. John's, just six shy of her season-high mark of 30 set in the season opener vs. Gonzaga. Takeda is also a threat offensively with her ability to serve the ball. She currently ranks second on the team with 17 service aces. Her top performance in this category came at Ball State when she registered seven aces against the Cardinals on Sept. 7.
Bri Leads Butler in Blocks at St. John's
Bri Lilly was a force at the net last weekend against St. John's. The sophomore middle blocker recorded 10 blocks and added five kills for 10 total points. She helped BU record 15 total team blocks, the second-highest total of the season.
You Can Count on Klingensmith
Jessica Klingensmith recorded more blocks after the first 11 matches of the 2016 season than she recorded during the entire 2015 campaign. The switch to the middle of the Butler defense has worked with the redshirt-junior leading the team with 67 blocks (1.02 per set). Klingensmith remains a threat offensively by ranking fourth on the team in kills with 107.
Breakdown Per Set
Butler is 12-6 vs. opponents in set one, 13-5 in set two, 11-7 in set three, 9-2 in set four and 1-4 in set five. Saturday night's match at St. John's marked the first contest this season where Butler lost the first set, but came back to pull out the victory. The Bulldogs have dropped the first set in five of their six losses this season.
Up Next
The Bulldogs will return to action with a 1 PM road match at DePaul on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Their next home contest will be played over homecoming weekend as they host the Xavier Musketeers on Saturday, Oct. 8. The match will begin at 4 PM.
