Georgetown Tops #11 @ButlerMBB, 85-81

Box Score

Visiting Georgetown made key plays down the stretch to post an 85-81 win over No. 11 Butler Saturday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse. In the closing minutes, the Hoyas put together an 11-4 run to put a halt to Butler's 14-game home winning streak.

With the win, Georgetown improves to 12-10 on the season and 3-6 in BIG EAST play. Butler drops to 18-4 (7-3 BIG EAST).

"This is a disappointing result," said coach Chris Holtmann. "You have to give Georgetown a lot of credit. We had no answer for them. They made some tough shots, but that's what they do. But I didn't think we had near the defensive presence we needed tonight. We allowed them to get comfortable."

The game featured 19 lead changes and 10 ties as Georgetown shot 64 percent from the field and the Bulldogs countered at a 55-percent clip.

Rodney Pryor, who was held scoreless by Butler in the Bulldogs' 85-76 overtime win over the Hoyas Jan. 7 in the nation's capital, keyed an 11-4 run by himself that turned a game tied at 61 into a Georgetown lead of 72-65 with 7:10 to play. But, the Bulldogs responded with seven unanswered points to tie the game once again.

After trading baskets, Georgetown got two points in the paint from Jessie Govan followed by an L.J. Peak three-pointer, and a Govan three-pointer as the shot clock expired to take an 82-77 lead with just over a minute to play. Those eight points were sandwiched around an Avery Woodson three-pointer that kept Butler within striking distance.

However, the Bulldogs could not get a stop down the stretch as Georgetown earned the win.

Kelan Martin led Butler with 22 points. Sixteen of his points came in the opening half as Butler took a 41-40 halftime advantage. Andrew Chrabascz added 16 and Kamar Baldwin had 10.

Peak led the visitors with 22 points. Govan and Pryor each had 20. The Hoyas made 10-of-20 from behind the arc and held a slim 22-19 rebounding advantage as carom opportunities were limited with the number of made shots by both teams. Georgetown shot 73 percent over the final 20 minutes.

The game ended several streaks as Butler lost for the first time under Holtmann when scoring at least 80 points or shooting at least 50 percent from the field. The Bulldogs entered the contest 30-0 and 25-0, respectively, in those categories in Holtmann's two-plus seasons as head coach.

The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday, hosting nationally-ranked Creighton for a 7 p.m. tip. The game will air nationally on FS1.
