#16/15 @ButlerMBB Falls to #22 Creighton, 76-67

Box Score

No. 22 Creighton used a hot shooting night from behind the arc to top Butler, 76-67, Tuesday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The visiting Bluejays went 13-of-21 from three-point range in the win. Creighton is now 20-3 overall and 7-3 in BIG EAST play. The Bulldogs, ranked No. 15 and 16 in this week's polls, fall to 18-5 (7-4).

"Give Creighton credit; they were clearly the better team tonight," said Butler coach Chris Holtmann. "We obviously did not play well and we have some work to do. Right now, we aren't good enough to play without grit and purpose defensively."

Creighton shot 56 percent from the field. Justin Patton, Marcus Foster and Khyri Thomas each had 15 points.

The Bluejays used a run in each half to create space. With Butler leading 24-17 with 9:20 remaining in the first half, Creighton went on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 29-24 lead and an eventual 37-33 halftime edge.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Butler re-took the lead 38-37. That would prove to be the Bulldogs' last lead of the contest. Creighton went on a 17-4 run over the next 3:30 to take a 54-42 lead. At that point in the game, Creighton was 11-of-17 from behind the arc.

The Bulldogs would score the next seven points of the game to pull within five before Patton scored six consecutive points to stretch the lead back to double figures. Butler would not get within seven the rest of the way.

Kamar Baldwin led the Bulldogs with 14 points. Kelan Martin added 11 points and eight rebounds. Butler shot 41 percent from the field, and just 26 percent (7-of-27) from behind the arc. The Bulldogs had a 35-27 advantage on the boards. Each team had 13 turnovers.

After 10 games in the calendar month of January, Butler will take a week off from competition before traveling to Marquette for a Tuesday (Feb. 7) game in Milwaukee. The 9 p.m. (Eastern) tip will air on CBS Sports Network. Following a Feb. 11 game at Providence, the Bulldogs return to Hinkle for a Feb. 15 game with St. John's.
