PROVIDENCE – The Bulldogs picked up a 2-1 double overtime victory at Providence on Sunday afternoon.
Paige Monaghan opened up the scoring for BU with an unassisted finish to the upper right side of the goal. The game-winner featured Monaghan pushing the ball up the left side. Her cross to
Caitlyn DiSarcina ended the contest at the 108:24 mark.
With the win, Butler moves to 9-1-2 overall with a 2-0-1 BIG EAST record. They allowed a goal for the first time since August 20.
BU once again used two goalkeepers in the contest.
Hannah Luedtke played the first half and kept the Friars off the scoreboard. She made three saves in her outing.
Leonie Doege was responsible for the final 63:26 minutes of the match. The true freshman made five saves.
Providence took 18 total shots with Butler ending the match with 11. The Friars took 10 of their 18 shots in the second half. They followed that effort with three shots in the first overtime period. Butler didn't allow a shot in the second overtime period. The offense picked up the pace with three.
Paige Monaghan led the charge at Providence with five shots. She ended the game with one goal and one assist.

Caitlyn DiSarcina were each in the box score with two shots. Rounding out the total was
Halle Stelbasky and
Elena Gutlove.
Butler will return to action on Friday, Oct. 5 with a home match against Xavier. The match will stream on Facebook Live at 7 PM.
