MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Butler women's basketball team will compete in the Paradise Jam this year against #11 West Virginia, Virginia Tech and Drexel. All three contests will stream on FloHoops.

Scouting #11 West Virginia
The nationally-ranked Mountaineers are 3-0 at the start of the 2017 season with wins over Central Connecticut State, Sacramento State and North Florida. They average 96 points per game and head into their matchup vs. Butler shooting the ball 53 percent from the field. Teana Muldrow leads West Virginia in both points and rebounds. She averages 25.7 points and 11 rebounds per contest. Four of the five starters score in double figures. Naomi Davenport is averaging 18 points and eight rebounds. Katrina Pardee scores 16 ppg.
Scouting Virginia Tech
The Hokies are off to a 4-0 start to the 2017 campaign with all four wins coming on their home court. Virginia Tech has defeated Wagner, Auburn, USC Upstate and UCF in preparation to compete in the Paradise Jam Tournament. Taylor Emery has led the team in scoring in three of the four contests. She averages 17 points per game, shooting 42 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point land. Regan Magarity is an inside presence for the Hokies. The 6-3 forward averages a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds per contest.
Scouting Drexel
The Dragons are 2-1 on the year with wins over La Salle and Bucknell and a loss at Penn State. Aubree Brown is the top scoring threat on the roster. Brown averages 13 points per game, logging 35 minutes of playing time per contest. The Dragons average 70 points per game, and are coming off a 22-win season which included a trip to the WNIT where they lost to BIG EAST foe Villanova. Drexel puts an emphasis on team basketball and playing solid defense. They forced 55 turnovers and recorded 26 steals in the two games against La Salle and Bucknell.
One-Two Punch
Tori Schickel and
Whitney Jennings give Butler a dynamic one-two punch in the scoring column with Schickel carving out space inside and Jennings doing damage from the perimeter. The juniors are currently tied for the team lead in scoring, averaging 19 points per game. The duo also combined for all 17 first quarter points for Butler in the contest at USF. Schickel has scored in double figures in all four games, but Jennings has the season-high scoring total with 30 points in the season opener vs. Austin Peay.
Scoring Runs
Butler opened the Murray State game on a 14-0 scoring run.
Tori Schickel was responsible for the first nine points of the contest and would add another bucket after a 3-point field goal from
Whitney Jennings. The longest scoring run of the season would follow in the game against Lipscomb. Butler erased a seven-point halftime deficit in the opening stages of the third quarter by going on a 15-0 scoring run. Four of the five starters made a field goal during the scoring spree.
Rebound Record Belongs to Schickel
Tori Schickel pulled down 364 rebounds a year ago to break the Butler single-season school record. She led Butler in rebounding in all 31 games, pulling down 125 on the offensive glass and 239 on defense. Schickel grabbed 10 rebounds or more in 19 games during the 2016-17 season. The preseason all-conference is averaging 11.5 rebounds per contest in 2017-18. She pulled down 17 rebounds against Lipscomb. Her new season-high total doubles as the highest rebound mark of any BIG EAST player this year.

Butler leads the BIG EAST Conference in rebound margin (+12). BU has outrebounded their opponent in all four games this year.
Tori Schickel has led the Bulldogs in the rebound column in every game (6, 8, 17, 15).
Bring It Back
Butler will bring back nine of the ten players on the 2016-17 roster. Nine returning letterwinners allows Butler to bring back 95 percent of their scoring. As far as just playing time, 87 percent of the minutes played last season were from student-athletes who are still on the roster this season. The return of

Sydney Buck and
Sydney Shelton both returning, Butler will bring back nearly 96 percent of their made threes from the 2016-17 season. Buck and Shelton accounted for 91 of Butler's 156 made 3-point field goals (58%).
1,000 Point Watch
Junior
Tori Schickel heads into the Paradise Jam with 789 career points. She is on pace to become just the 22nd player in Butler women's basketball history to reach 1,000.
