Butler couldn't overcome a cold shooting afternoon, falling 61-48 to Texas Thursday in the opening round of the PK80 Invitational at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Ore.
Sophomore
Kamar Baldwin led the Bulldogs with 15 points, six rebounds and three steals.
"Obviously, we wanted to play better," said Butler coach LaVall Jordan. "Defensively, we did a lot of good things, probably enough to win. But we just didn't finish possessions like we needed to offensively. We got good looks from guys that we wanted taking them, but they didn't fall tonight."
Butler opened the game by hitting only three of their first 22 attempts, but both teams shot below 30 percent in the opening half as Texas took a 22-19 lead into the locker rooms.
Both teams shot better in the second half and the Bulldogs were able to chip away at a 10-point deficit five minutes into the second half. Texas's lead would be trimmed to three at 45-42 with six minutes to play following a
Kelan Martin three-pointer. Ten of Martin's 12 points came in the second half.

That would be as close as Butler would get as the Longhorns' Dylan Osetkowski scored six points over the next several minutes as Texas pushed the lead back to seven and ultimately the final 13-point margin.
Butler shot 33 percent for the game, including only 6-of-22 from three-point range.
Sean McDermott had 11 for Butler, including the Bulldogs' first nine points of the game.
Andrew Jones led Texas with 16 points, as the Longhorns shot 40 percent. Osetkowski added 12. Texas had a 41-31 rebounding edge.
Butler has a quick turnaround and will play Portland State Friday at noon Pacific (3 p.m. Eastern). The game will air on ESPNU. The Vikings lost to Duke Thursday. Friday's game will be played at the Moda Center. Â
