INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs moved to 11-6 on the year and 4-0 on their home diamond after defeating Saint Louis 6-5 in game two of the weekend series. Butler's five-game winning streak was secured with
Chris Myjak recording his sixth save of the season.
Connor Dall went 3-for-3 from the plate with a run scored to pace the offense and the Bulldogs would use five arms on the mound defensively to hold the Billikens to just five runs.
Ryan Pepiot got the start and tossed the opening 4.1 innings of action. He struck out six, but was hit with four runs off five hits. The win would land with
Danny Pobereyko who took the hill after bullpen appearances from
Quentin Miller and
Brock Balderson. Pobereyko's first win of the season came in just one inning of action. He would be replaced by Myjak in the ninth giving Myjak his sixth save of the year.
Saint Louis scored first with a single run crossing home plate in the third inning. Case doubled and would be waved around to put SLU on the scoreboard after a base knock from Garella.
The Bulldogs would answer with three runs in the bottom of three to take the lead. Dall and Jarosz would each single to get on base and the bags would be full after Houston walked.
Garrett Christman entered the game at first base and delivered a two RBI single that advanced all runners. Houston would eventually tag up at third and score off the sac fly from
Michael Hartnagel.
The fourth inning was quiet for each side, but Saint Louis would make noise in the fifth by getting three runs back. Those three runs came off two hits and one error, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Sniatynski.
BU would tie the game in the bottom of the sixth with
Dan Busch scoring off a passed ball. The 4-4 tie would break up in the top of seven as Handford homered to lead off the inning.
BU wouldn't get anything going in the seventh, but they kept the Billikens off the scoreboard in the top of eight. The game would be decided in the bottom half of eight as BU scored two runs off three hits to earn the 6-5 win.
Gehrig Parker was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and he would move into scoring position after a sac bunt from
Duncan Hewitt.
Harrison Freed would enter the game in the DH role and come up with a big RBI single that sent Parker around to score. He would advance to second on a throwing error by the SLU first baseman.
Dall would enter the batter's box after a Billiken pitching change and come up with a single that moved Freed around to third. Butler would go on to win the game off
Chris Maranto's sac fly to centerfield that allowed Freed to tag up and score the game-winning run.
Butler and Saint Louis will return to Bulldog Park tomorrow at 1 PM for the third and final game of the weekend series.
