INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler Bulldogs posted 14 hits to score eight runs on Tuesday afternoon, an effort that allowed the team to defeat DePauw 8-1. Garrett Christman led the team to victory by going 3-for-4 from the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Christman also took the start of the hill for BU and tossed five full innings for his first win of the season.
 
The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first against DePauw by scoring five runs in the bottom of the second inning. DePauw starter Danny Farrar struggled with his command in the bottom half of the second inning to help BU grab the lead.
 
Farrar walked the first batter of the second inning, but would get a 6-4-3 ground double play to help his cause. The Bulldogs continued to battle with two outs in the inning as Connor Dall and Alex Horowitz each recorded singles to extend the action and put two on. Sam Russo would walk to load the bases and Farrar would walk Zach Jarosz for the first run of the game.
 
Yet another walk would follow as Tyler Houston watched four balls out of the zone cross home plate before jogging down to first base. Christman would record his RBI with a shot through the right side and a pitching change would take place after the hit.
 
The change didn't slow down Butler as Michael Hartnagel posted a two RBI single through the left side of the infield. Hartnagel ended the game 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored.
 
BU put three more runs on the scoreboard in the fourth to take complete control of the contest. Hartnagel delivered an RBI double to left field and sacrifice flies from Gehrig Parker and Harrison Freed would extend the lead.
 
Christman would leave the mound after five full innings, but remain in the game at the three-hole as the designated hitter. Relief pitcher River Pitlock would follow him on the mound and toss two perfect innings. Pitlock was sharp out of the pen with two strikeouts, but the highlight of the day for the redshirt junior was a defensive play that featured Pitlock flashing the leather and making a behind the back grab on a hard hit ground ball back up the middle of the field. Pitlock threw the ball over to first base in plenty of time for the third out of the inning and then shared a smile with his teammates in the dugout.
 
Landen Haney, Luke Johnson and Jack Pilcher would also see time on the bump on Tuesday afternoon. Haney had some control issues late in the contest and ended up allowing an earned run which erased the shutout. Johnson came in for the final out of the eighth inning and Pilcher would take the rubber for the ninth.
 
Butler will return to action tomorrow when they host Lewis at 4 PM.
