ATHENS, OHIO – The Bulldogs improved to 14-7 overall with a 4-3 win over Ohio on Friday night in extra innings.
Jordan Lucio doubled for BU in the top of the 11th inning which led to the game-winning run.
Butler posted a 4-3 victory at Ohio in part to a 3-for-5 day from the plate from Lucio. The BU designated hitter led off the 11th inning with a double to left. He was replaced in the game by
Cole Malloy who entered the game to pinch run. Malloy advanced to third on a passed ball and scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
Scoring opened up for Butler in the top of the first inning after an RBI double from
Garrett Christman.
Zach Jarosz got hit by a pitch to signal the start of the contest and the speedy second baseman would come all the way around to score after Christman's extra base hit.
Butler's lead would double in the top of the third after a two-out home run from centerfielder
Tyler Houston.
Ohio would jump on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Bulldogs would respond with another run in the bottom of six.
Michael Hartnagel delivered a one-out double to center and would move ahead to score off a Lucio single back up the middle of the diamond.
Ohio would climb back into the game with a solo score in the seventh followed by another score in the ninth to push the game into extra innings.
The deciding factor would be a double to left from Lucio which led off the 11th inning. Malloy advanced to third on the passed ball and won the game on a wild pitch.
These two teams will return to action tomorrow for a 1 PM doubleheader at Bob Wren Stadium.
