INDIANAPOLIS – The Panthers hit four home runs at Butler on Tuesday afternoon to post a 10-6 victory at Bulldog Park. BU jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead after the first inning, but EIU came up with at least one run from the fifth inning on to earn the road win.
Dougie Parks was an impact player for the Panthers going 2-for-5 with two homeruns, three RBI and two runs scored. Logan Beaman and Frankie Perrone joined him with home runs on the day. EIU also got a double and a triple out of Andrew Curran, the number nine hitter in the lineup. The Panthers posted eight total hits compared to seven for BU. They recorded their ninth win of the season.
Butler was led by
Gehrig Parker who went 2-for-4 with a double and a homerun to generate three RBI. Leftfielder
Chris Maranto also sent a ball over the wall in left to post his fourth homer of the season.
It was Parker that helped BU grab the early lead as he connected on a two RBI double down the leftfield line to score
Zach Jarosz and
Michael Hartnagel.
Garrett Christman would join Parker on base after seeing four balls and the Bulldogs would double their lead with a two-RBI double from
Alex Horowitz who got the start at designated hitter today.
EIU followed up with a single run in the second thanks to a solo, lead-off home run from Parks. Maranto would get that run back for BU in the fourth with his solo shot.
Butler starter
Danny Pobereyko would leave the game at the start of the fifth inning and the bullpen would get touched up for the final nine runs of the game. Curran's triple in the fifth got the momentum going for the Panthers. He would come all the way around to score on the play as the relay throw was off the target at third base.
Parks had his name pop up again in the sixth with a two-run homerun and the Panthers would take the lead after a groundout RBI from Perrone.
EIU added a single run in the seventh with Curran scoring off a wild pitch and yet another run would come home in the eighth after a homer from Perrone.
Butler broke up the streak with Parker's solo shot to right in the eigth, but two more Eastern Illinois runs in the top of the ninth would seal the win.
Butler will return to action tomorrow evening with a 6 PM contest at Indiana.
