CINCINNATI – The Xavier Musketeers swept Butler on Sunday afternoon by posting a 3-2 victory over the Bulldogs.
Tyler Houston tied the game at 2-2 with a two-run home run in the sixth, but an RBI single from Xavier in the seventh sealed the win.
Butler was limited to just four hits on the day with Houston leading the way with a 2-for-4 performance.
Jordan Lucio and
Connor Dall each went 1-for-3 at Hayden Field.
The pitcher's duel came down to
Connor Mitchell and Greg Jacknewitz. Mitchell tossed 6.2 innings and struck out six while only walking one. He took the loss while Jacknewitz picked up the win. Jacknewitz went seven full innings and struck out five while also only walking one batter.
The first run of the game was recorded in the bottom of the first off a Xavier sacrifice fly to deep centerfield. The lead would double to 2-0 after a solo home run from Soria in the second.
Another round-tripper would tie the score in the sixth as Houston went yard with
Chris Maranto on base. Butler couldn't complete the comeback however as Griffiths singled to right field in the seventh to score Bannon.
Matt Kent entered the game for Xavier in the eighth. He tossed the final two innings of the game to earn his second save of the season.
Butler will return to action on April 25 with a home game against Dayton. First pitch is slated for 4 PM.
