OXFORD, Ohio – The Bulldogs walked away from McKie Field with an 8-4 victory over Miami Ohio after scoring four runs in the top of the 10th inning. The highly competitive contest featured Butler taking a two-run lead into the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Redhawks would score two in crunch time to knot the scoreboard at 4-4. The four-run tenth inning would separate the two clubs. Butler scored all four runs without registering a single hit.
Pitching was the downfall for Miami Ohio in the 10th inning as the Redhawk walked seven-straight batters to lose the game. Miami Ohio walked 15 total batters on Wednesday while striking out 11. The Bulldog arms only issued six walks while striking out 12.
The win went to
Chris Myjak, his second of the season. Myjak tossed one full inning and struck out one batter.
Josh Walker entered the game in the bottom of the 10th to hold off Miami Ohio. He only allowed one hit while striking out two.
The start went to Same Hubbe who struck out five batters over four full innings. Hubbe was responsible for three of Butler's six walks on the day. He slowed down the Redhawk bats though, allowing just four hits over four frames for two runs.
Gehrig Parker and
Jordan Lucio were the top offensive weapons in the lineup on Wednesday. Parker collected three hits and Lucio was in the box score with a team-high three RBI.
Parker's double down the leftfield line in the sixth got the ball rolling for BU. He would advance
Michael Hartnagel to third base to put two runners in scoring position. Hartnagel led off the inning with a walk. He and Parker would come home to score after a double from Lucio. The final run in the sixth would cross home plate after a triple from
Chris Maranto.
The 'Dawgs added an insurance run in the top of the ninth with Lucio's third RBI of the game. Lucio watched ball four during his at-bat which featured the bases loaded. Shaky pitching would then seal Butler's 25th win of the season.
BU will return to action this weekend with a three-game homestand against conference foe Villanova. Game one is slated for 4 PM on Friday afternoon.
