NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The 2017 season got off to a good start for the Butler women's soccer team. The 'Dawgs traveled to #18 Notre Dame on Friday night and walked away with a quality 0-0 double overtime tie. The women's soccer team has now reached double overtime in three of their last four season openers.
The two-evenly matched teams took the field at Alumni Stadium in front of 637 fans to kick off the new season. Four Bulldogs played the entire 110 minutes against the Irish and two of the four were true freshmen.

Leonie Doege did everything they could for Butler to keep the game competitive from start to finish. Doege made four saves in her collegiate debut, while Monaghan led the offensive charge with four shots. Butler ended the contest with six total shots, the Fighting Irish were credited with 15.
Corner kicks also favored the home team with Notre Dame taking seven compared to Butler's four. The Bulldogs were whistled for six more fouls than ND, but the Irish were hit with the lone yellow card of the game.
Notre Dame had defeated Butler in the previous ten meetings. This result also goes down as the first tie against a ranked opponent since the 2014 season when BU tied #12 DePaul 2-2.
The Bulldogs will now travel to Athens, Ohio to play the Bobcats on Sunday, Aug. 20. Kickoff is set for 2 PM.
