ATHENS, Ohio – A quick goal from Ohio proved to be the difference on Sunday afternoon as the Bobcats beat the Bulldogs 1-0. The lone score of the game was recorded less than four minutes into the contest. With the setback, BU moved to 0-1-1 on the year.
Sydney Leckie of Ohio sent a cross to Hannah Jaggers for the game-winning goal. Jaggers found the back of the net off a header that beat the keeper to the left side.
Butler took 19 total shots with 10 in the first half followed by nine in the second. Ohio used two goalkeepers that combined for five saves. A team save was also credited to the Bobcats.
Hannah Luedtke was in goal for Butler. Luedtke made seven stops in her season debut.
The Bulldog offense featured
Halle Stelbasky on the attack. The junior forward led all players with six shots.
Paige Monaghan and
Amanda Kowalski each took four shots. The total was rounded out by
Brenna Pawelkowski (2),
Payton Black (2) and
Gabrielle Lemkuil (1).
Butler will return to action next week for a Thursday afternoon match at Michigan State. The 2017 home opener will follow as BU hosts Bowling Green on Sunday, Aug. 27 at the Sellick Bowl.
